BRAZILIAN AFFAIRS.
London, Sept. 29. It is reported that the British Government, alarmed at the situation at Rio de Janeiro, are exchanging urgent cable messages with the British Legation there, relative to the protection of British subjects. Washington, Oct. 1. An American warship will be sent to prevent the rebels at Rio Janeiro seizing property, and to enter a protest against tha killing of any of the citizens. Lord Rosebery proposes that America and Great Britain should jointly intervene in the matter. Boynton, an American resident, has been arrested in consequence of his taking part in directing torpedoes fired by the rebels. ' The latest information from Brazil states that the rebels have captured Santa Catharina, a maritime Province in the south. It is believed that foreign pressure will induce Dr Peitoto, President of Brazil, to resign. The Foreigu Ministers in Rio de Janeiro are seeking to mediate in the present trouble, to prevent the further bombardment of the city. * " '~:f-
