TIMARU MARKETS.
The Canterbury Farmers' Association, Limited, report as follows for the week ending Friday, September 29th, 1893 : Wheat The markets locally continue dull, and buyers are not inclined to operate unless at a margin on Mark Lane quotations, which it is gratifyiug to note are gradually improving. Welvet 2s 6£d to 2s 7£d; tuscan, 2s s£d to 2s 6£d; red chaff, 2s 4d to 2s sd, on trucks Timaru. Oats —There is little demand, but quotations are unchanged. Canadians, 2s; Danish, Is 9d to Is lid; short feed Is lid, f.o.b. Potatoes —The few who were holding in hopes of a rise so far are disappointed. Prices continue to drop in absence of any demand. 60s to Gss, country staions. CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKET. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday there was a gcod attendance. Business in nearly every department exhibited a healthy tone and short supplies in the fat pens caused keen competition. Store Sheep—About 1500 store sheep were penned, mostly crossbred ewes with lambs at foot and hoggets. Crossbred ewes 100 per cent of lambs, brought 12s 8d to 18s 5d ; merino ewes and lambs, os lOd to 7s 3d: crossbred hoggets, 8s to lis Bd. Fat Sheep—ln fat sheep the entry was about 45C0 the quality for the most part being above the average. Competition was good for all sorts, and buyers for export were operating freely. Crossbred wethers, 14s to 22s Gd ; ewes, 14s to 21s ; mixed sexes, 16s Gd to 20s Gd ; halfbred wethers, 18s 3d to 19s lid ; mixed sexos 14s 2d to 17s 2d ; merino wethers, lis to 15s Gd. A good yarding of fat lambs sold from 9s 6d to lGs 4d. Fat Cattle—Only 92 head of fat cattle were yarded. Steers sold at £8 to £9 7s Gd; cows, £5 17s Gd to £7 10s, heifers, £5 15s to £8 2s 6d; beef brought from 22s 6d to 24s per 1001 b for second quality, and up to 27s 6d for prime sorts. Store Cattle—ln store cattle there was a small entry, chiefly yearlings and two-year-olds. They met with a slightly improved demand, but not much business was done.
Pigs —Baconera were eagerly competed for, and sold up to 543. Porkers maintained last week's rates, and all young stores were taken by farmers at an advance on the prices lately ruliug. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat —Millers are not anxious to operate. Prices are keeping low. Prime quality saleable at 2s 9d to ,3s ; medium, 2a 4d to 2s Bd. Fowls' wheat; Good whole grain, 2s 7d to 2s Bd—in good demand. Barley Chevalier, 3s 9d to 4s; Cape, 2s 9d for malting qualities. Oats—Good milling and prime feed, 2s Id ; long tartarians tor seed: bright, 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; danish, 2s, ■ Hops—ls f.0.b., Nelson. Potatoes—Prices range from £4los to £4 17s Gd. Pigs Have "inquiry, 4d to 4Jd for suitable sizes and quality, Bacon, 6Jd; hams, 9d. Chaff has demand, prime £'6 10% to to £3 15s; good, 40s to 555. Salt Butter—Demand quiet, 7id, packages extra; prime quality only wanted. Cheese (large), 4}d to 4£d ; factory, 4id to sd. Honey—From 3|d to 4|d. Roller flour, £7 10s ; stone flour, £G ss, Bran—£2 ss. Pollard, £3. Oatmeal—£lo 10s. Pearl barley, £2O. Grass Seeds—Ryegrass, 2s Gd to 3s; machined from 3s 9d to 4s 6d (demand improving); cocksfoot, 3£d to 5d (in good demand). Onions —£11. Prime clover hay, £3. Sheepskins—At auction on Tuesday a good demand existed for both green and
dry skins. Best, green crossbreds brought 4s lOd to 5s 3d—extra heavy 3d to 6d more; medium to good, 3s lOd to 4s 9d; green merinos, 2s lOd to 3s lOd ; country dry crossbreds—inferior to medium, Is 8d to 3s 2d; do do merino, Is 5d to 2a Id ; full-wooled crossbreds—good, 3s 3d to 4s 5d ; best, 4s Gd to 5s Gd; extra heavy, 6s to 6s Gd; full-woolled merinos—good, 2s 2d to 3s 2d; best, 3s 3d to 4s 9d ; dry pelts, 2d to Is 4d each. Hides—The market is unchanged, late quotations being maintained, which are : For heavy hides (salted), 2d to 2£d; extra heavy (in faultless condition), 2fd to 3d ; medium, lid to l|d; inferior, Id to lid per lb. . Tallow—A steady demand exists. lor best rendered mutton, 21s Gd to 22s Gd; medium to good, 18s Gd to 20s Gd; inferior to medium, 14s 6d to 17s Gd. Rough fat taken up freely; best fresh clean mutton caul fetching 14s to 14s Gd; medium to good, 12s 6d to 13s 9d; inferior to medium, lis to 12s 3d per cwt.
