New Caledonia. —Dr Lostalofc Bachone, of Auckland, who has been on a holiday to New Caledonia, states that the island is depressed in sympathy with Australia, bub that signs of a revival are not wanting. The mineral resources are being vigorously developed, and nickel ore has become a most important product. The colony does not think that there is any ground for the rumour that France is willing to sell New Caledonia to Russia, though she might be disposed to exchange, it fQr another island.
