CYCLING.
Sydney, Sept. 22. W. J. Hayward, the cyclist of Christchurch, New Zealand, has reduced the Australian mile record to 2min 25 l-sth sec; and 0, E. Hall, of Timaru, New Zealand, has reduced the five-mile record to 13min 6 2-sth sec. Sept. 23. At the intercolonial Cycling Meeting at Sydney on Saturday, the principal events resulted as follows: Two Mile Bicycle Teams Race—Kerr (Sydney), 1; Hayward (New Zealand), 2; Wilmot (New Zealand) 3. In the race Kerr was first by 5 yards, but New Zealand won the trophies, with a score of 12 points, New South Wales and Queensland scoring 6 points each, the points being awarded on the relative positions of the men at the finish jof the race. Time—smin 43 l-sth sec. One Mile Scratch Race— Wilmot 1; Hayward 2. Wilmot won by 10 yards. Six started. Time—2min 41 l-sth sec.
