BANK ROBBERIES AND MURDER.

Sydney, Sept. 24,

Burglars entered the City Bank at Carcoar this morning, and surprised the manager, Mr Philips, whom one attacked with a tomahawk. Mrs Philips and Miss Cavanagh rushed to his rescue. A bloody struggle ensued. The robber struck out right and left, instantly killing Mr Phillips and Miss Cavanagh. Mrs Phillips and her child were seriously wounded. The robbers then escaped. Search parties are scouring the district without success, though the murderer is believed to be known. The Joint Stock Bank at Wickam, near Newcastle, was also entered last nght. The clerk, Mr Charles Hurt, while visiting the bank at 10 o'clock, was bound and gauged, but the robbers failed to secure any money and escaped.
