London, August 15
Four hundred deaths from cholera are reported from Kieff in. Russia, where they are said to average thirty per day. It is raging to an alarming extent in Rome and Naples, many deaths occurring daily. The Corporation of Edinburgh have conferred the freedom of the city on Lord Roberts.
August 22. Two cases of suspected cholera have been reported in East London. The Premier of New South Wales has invited the Canadian Delegation to visit Australia about the middle of September. The invitation will probably be accepted, and Mr M. Bowell, Minister of Trade and Commerce, will most likely be the chief delegate. H.M.S. Hood, 14 guns, replaces the ill-fated warship Victoria on the Mediterranean station.
Paris, August 21
It is reported that the King of Siam has accorded the French Minister a cordial reception, and said that he regarded the recent trouble as transient. Berlin, August 22.
The German Government intend to spend £2,000,000 on strengthening the navy. Brussels, August 20. The Belgian army manoeuvres have been countermanded owing to an epidemic of dysentery and other diseases having broken out. St. Petersburg, August 20. The hospital at Kaluga was burned and twenty of the intimates perished.

Sydney, August 22,
Letters from the New Hebrides state emphatically that a strong representation has been made to the French Government to declare a protectorate over the group. Within the past few months the French Government have made a grant of £15,000 to the French New Hebrides Trading Company, with a view to promoting settlement, and to encourage trade.
Melbourne, August 22,
The Railway Commissioners report that the railway revenue for the year shows a decrease of £165,000, as compared with that of last year. Mr Panton, the Magistrate, explains to the Minister of Justice that he refused to order the issue of summonses against Sir M. Davies and Mr Milledge, on the ground that no fresh evidence was forthcoming, Adelaide, August 21,
The Premier has received a cable from the Premier of New Zealand, stating that if invited the New Zealand Government will be prepared to favourably consider the proposal for a Customs Conference of the Australasian colonies.
