GRAIN SALE
The New Zealand Land Assocition, per Mr F. LeCren, report:—We held a sale of graii and grass seeds at our stores on Tuesday last, when the following catalogue was submitted : —5429 sacks milling wheat, 118 sacks whole fowl wheat, 1980 sacks seconds and thirds wheat, 330 sacks barley, 1812 sacks oats, 280 sacks cocksfout, and 19 sacks ryegrass, total 9968 sacks. There was a large attendance of the trade and others interested, but buyers evidently look for lower prices than those ruling at present, and consequently very, few lots were sold. We quitted 1793 sacks as follows : —491 sacks milling wheat at 2s 3d to 2s 7d, 826 sacks seconds and thirds wheat at I s 4d to 2s Id, 55 sacks whole fowl wheat at 2s sd, 70 sacks tartar and 21 sacks dun oats at 2s Id, and 330 sacks barley sold privately after the sale at a very satisfactory price. On the whole the sale was a very disappointing one.
CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKET.
At the Addington Yards on Wednesday the attendance was good, and the entries in most classes were fair.
Store Sheep—More than 2000 stores came forward, consisting mostly of breeding ewes and hoggets. The scarcity of feed is showing its effect in thi* class, and very little business was done, owners having to submit to a drop where sales were eifected. Crossbred wethers brought 12s to 14s, breeding ewes lis to 14s 3d, hoggets 10s 9d to lis 7d, merino wethers 5s 3d, ewes 6s 3d. Fat Sheep—Between 6000 and 7000 fat sheep were penned, the quality being decidedly below the average. Second class and half-finished sorts predominated, and for these the market was decidedly easier. Really prime crossbreds and merinos were the only sorts that approached the pricos lately ruling. Best crossbreds brought 18s 5d to 22s 9d, handy freezers 15s Gd to 17s Gd, inferior lis to 14s 6d, mixed sexes 14s Gd to 16s 7d, halfbred wethers 13s lid to 20s, ewes 14a 8d to 10s Bd, mixed 15s to 17s Bd, merino wethers, prime quality 12s 5d to 14s lOd, inferior 7s Gd to lis 6d. Fa£ Lambs —Lambs brought from lis to 15s.
Fat Cattle—The entry of fat cattle was about 150, mostly cows and heifers. Best steers brought up to £9 7s 6d, cows from £5 10s to £7, heifers from £6 to £8 10s. Store Cattle—There was a large entry of store cattle, but the sale was of an unsatisfactory character. Pig S —There was a small entry.
