ORARI DOMAIN.
A meeting of settlers in the Orari district was held on Wednesday evening re the public park. Mr Ensor, who was voted to the chair, explained the position of the negotiations with Government regarding the public park, aud read a letter from Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, M.H.R., who stated tha: he had advanced the £2O required to be paid to secure the grant of laud. The chairman further pointed out that the meeting had to nominate a board of management of either five or seven members, the nominees to be submitted to the Governor for appointment. Vlr Latimer proposed, and Mr Jones seconded—“ That a board of seven members be appointed.”—Carried. The attention of the meeting was drawn to the need of making some suggestions for the guidance of the future board of management.
Mr Mason thereupon moved the £2O advanced by Mr Rhodes be paid to him as early as early as possible, and to raise money for that purpose a concert be held ; and also that tenders be called for the purchase of the house standing on one of the sections comprised in the public park,” —ihe motion was seconded and carried.
Mr Hawke proposed, and Mr Bates seconded—“ That tne board be instructed to buy the section owned by Mr Hiherly, provided the owner sells for what he paid for the section.”—Carried. Nine nominations were then made for the board of management, and a ballot was taken aud the following were declared duly nominated : —F. Barker (36), W. Mason (35), W. Hawke (33), O. Boland (31), O’Neill (25), S. Breadley (24), and A. Brown (23). The other candidates were T. Bates (22) and G. Batty (22). , , . A vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a close.
