RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
GERALDINE—TUESfD AY, JULY 25. [Before 0. A. Wray, Esq., R.M., and Messrs H. W, Moore, and W. M. Moore, J.P.’s.] WANDERING CATTLE. F. W. Worn or was charged with three offences of allowing a cow to wander in a public place. Defendant admitted two of the offences, and said that the other offence happened when the cow was lent to another person, and that person was then to blame. In the other cases defendant excused himself on the fact that the cow had calved only a few days before, and was restless to get out of the paddock, which it did by jumping a barbed fence of five wires. Defendant was fined 5s and costs in each of two offences, and the other information was dismissed. John Boughton, charged with allowing a cow to wander in High street did not, appear, and was fined 6s and costs. James Riordan pleaded not guilty to a charge of allow ing a cow to wander in the North Terrace. Constable Willoughby in his evidence admitted that the cow had only been on the road about fifteen minutes,and jumped into a paddock when he rode up. Defendant said that his cow had only been about two minutes out of his yard, and was going from the yard to the paddock, a few chains away, when the constable saw it. Usually his children drove the cow to the paddock, but on the present occasion no one attended it. Defendant was fined Is and costs. James Rennie admitted allowing an animal to wander in Talbot street. He had had a cow for three years and this was the only complaint against him. Fined Is with costs James Turner pleaded not guilty to a charge of allowing two horses to wander in Jolly street. Defendant stated that about six o’clock on the morning of the offence some person opened the gate of paddock, and the horses wandered out on to the flat, and did not remain on the street. Defendant was fined 5s per animal with cods. The Court then rose.
