RANGITATA DEBATING SOCIETY.

A meeting of the above society was hold in the schoolroom on Friday evening lasr. Mr E. Amyes occupied the chair. The debate for the evening was “ Agricultural v. Pastoral Farming.” Mr C. Dorward’s paper depicted the life of a pastoral farmer, aud showed that his was an easier life than that of his brother farmer, being free from all anxiety and worry. The subject-matter of the two papers submitted was good, aud, although the attendance was not quite so large as on former occasions, the discussion was freer and more animated, and both the writers defended their papers in a very able manner. Mr E. Amyes proposed a vote of thanks to the two members for their interesting papers, which was carried with loud applause. Daring the evening two members contributed songs, bpth being well received.

The secretary intimated that the next meeting would take the form of a social, to be given in aid of the school funds at an early date, Mr Malian proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman, and the meeting terminated.
