TIMARU A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

The monthly meeting of the committee of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral 4ssociatioi was held on Saturday afternoon. Present Messrs James King (chairman), J. Murray, D. McLaren, A. C. Pringle, J. S. Rutherford, 6. Lyall, R. Davie, R. Irving, J, Austin, W. Hay, A. Wyllie, E. Kelland, and J. Campbell. Several lists were handed in } {com it appeared that voluntary subscriptions and private priaee amounting to £ll3, had been promised. Discussion of a notice of motion by Mr Hay « That in future the shows of the Association be held on Wednesday and Thursday, instead of Tuesday and Wednesday, as hitherto,” was held over, until information is received as to the date of the Ashburton show, which usually takes place on the Friday after the Timaru show.” It was proposed by Mr Pringle, seconded by Mr Wyllie, and carried—- “ That in future the admission to the show be Is on both days at all hours, for non-members.” Mr McLaren stated to the meeting that several exhibitors from outside the district had written as well as spoken to him, with reference to whether the association meant to hold their show on the same grounds again. He had replied that it was impossible to move this year, but that the association were contemplating a move, if a suitable site could bo obtained; and he hoped that they would not withhold their exhibits, but assist the association all in their power to make the show a success. Mr McLaren next moved, and Mr Murray seconded—“ That cups, value £2 2s, be given in all classes of sheep (subject to general regulation No. 16) ; and £2 2s for the best ram of any age, and £1 Is for the best ewe of any age.” The resolution was agreed to. It was further resolved that when a private prize is given for most points in a stock class it should take the place of the association’s prize for that class; that cups in cattle classes be discontinued, unless given as a private prize, and that all other cups remain as for the years 1890-91, On the motion of Mr McLaren, seconded by Mr Pringle, the following gentlemen were elected members of the association : Messrs R. W, Ward, A. H. Abbott, A. S. Bruce, W. Wreford. Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, M.H.R., sent forward information to the committee of his intention to give private prizes as in former years for dairy produce. He Imped to see a considerable increase in the amount of dairy produce, not only exhibited at the show, but exported from this district. The Lyttelton Times Company wrote offering a year’s subscription to the Canterbury Times as a prize, apd the offer was accepted with thanks.
