Sydney, July 5. Sixty seamen have been arrested for refusing duty. The engineers are not likely to join in the strike, Ihe Seamen’s IJnjmi' have issued a manifesto Upon their members to adopt tbe attitude taken by the Sailors’ Unfou during the strike at Homestead and Hull.

Twenty of the strikers off the Harcoo were eaqh sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment and ordered to forfeit two days’ pay. The other cases were remanded. During the trial there was considerable cheering in court, and the ringleaders of the unseemly conduct were arrested and imprisoned.

July 6. Twenty-six more seamen belonging to coasting steamers have been arrested and remanded for deserting their vessels. Shipping is not affected by the strike, and there is no cessation of operations, plenty of free labour being available. Twenty-six steamers have shipped new crews at the reduced rates of wages. The secretary of the Seamen’s Union acknowledges that there is not the faintest prospect of the success of the strike. Adelaide, July 4. Twenty-five seamen of the Aremac have been arrested for leaving the- vessel, otherwise matters connected with the strike are quiet. Dune pin, July 5. Mr Millar, secretary of the Maritime Labour Council, does !uot think the strik&' will affect this colony at present, but he is not prepared to say more, pending developments.
