overseer's report. The overseer's report was read and dealt with as follows: — " To the Chairman, « Su-j—l have the honor to report for the past month as follows : —Tenders have been invited for forming 112 chains of the Main South Road and for cleaning drain on White's road. Contracts No. 57, Quoting drain and formation Education Reserve j Nq. 53, Formation of portion of road between Qrari rive,r ans Edugation Reserve 1400; and No, 59, Deepening , ~*f Canal Drain, are nearly completed, part c. ,^ n j f ormat i on etc a t Re appW. h eighteen chains Rangitata: There are „, s of the Main South Road thai ret W to be improved, and after visiting the place with Mr Snell, I would suggest that the road be formed about 30 feet wide, ana shingled nearly the full width for the greater part of its length; this would cost about £ . Re shingle applied for by Mr Airay: There are about 8 chains of the road fronting Mr Airay's house that requires shingling. If this is done there should be about 8 chains of the same road between Ruddenklau's and the road leading to Mr Grainger's, and about 10 chains ,of the road leading to Mr Grainger's done 'at the same time. The total cost would be about £ . Re Mr McCully's application : There are about 80 chains of this road that is not fit to carry traffic, and it will require a coat of shingle before it will do so. To shingle this portion would cost about £ ; but I do not consider the traffic on this road would justify the expenditure of so large a sum. I would suggest that in tho spring or summer about £ be spent on it to repair the worst places. I have not yet had the footpath from the Brewery to the Temuka Bridge done, on account of the hard frosts. The Waitohi road has not been done for the same reason, and I do not think this work should be undertaken until the spring. During the mouth a concrete culvert has been built on Badham's road, river fords have been attended to, small jobs of shingle repairing done, and drains on White's and Paterson's roads have been cleaned.—l have, etc., "F. Archer." Tenders to be called for formation at Rangitata in accordance with application ; also for shingle near Mr Airay's; tenders for September meeting for work near McCully's. RATE.
