A GOOD RECORD.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company supplies the following particulars of exports, etc., from Timaru, for the past six months. During the six months ending 31st May last, 14 sailing ships with a registered tonnage of 11,888, and seven steamers with a registered tonnage of 17,424 tons, cleared at Timaru for the United Kingdom, taking the following cargo : 27,119 bales wool and skins, value £319,308 103,983 sacks wheat „ 19,417 7,354 „ oats „ 2,741 34 „ beans „ 22 62,615 carcases sheep and lambs „ 38,593 694 casks tallow „ 7,171 221 „ salted pelts „ 3,752 69 sacks salted hides ~ 122 5 kegs butter „ 9 Included in the above are 1951 bales of wool valued at £22,924, from Dunedin and Oamaru, shipped here. In addition to the above, 792 bales of wool (value £8454), 1000 sacks wheat (value £560), and 3646 carcases sheep and lamb (value £2248) went coastwise for transhipment, so that the total value of South Canterbury exports, exclusive of colonial and inter colonial, make up the sum of £409,473 for six months, a very good record, and one of which South Canterbury may well be proud.
