The Drinks op New Zealand,— From a return prepared by the Collector of Customs at the request of the late Premier, it appears that there has been a wonderful decrease in the consumption of liquor of late years. Since 1878 the amount of spirits used per head has decreased 48 per cent., imported ale and beer 64 per cent., wine 61 per cent., New Zealand ale and beer 22 per cent., Tea has remained nearly the same, while coffee, cocoa, etc. have decreased nearly half. Mr Glasgow explains that chicory is all made in the colony, and some cocoa; also that while strong Indian teas have partly supplanted Chinese teas and lessened necessary consumption, there has been a decrease of 43 per cent. The convictions for drunkenness almost coincide with the decreased percentage in spirits. The best medicine known is Sander & Sons’ Eucalypti Extract. Test its eminent powerful effects in coughs, colds, influenza ; the relief is instantaneous. In serious cases, and accidents of all kinds, be they wounds, burns, scalding, bruises, sprains, it is the safest remedy—no swelling —no inflammation. Like surprising effects produced in croup, diphtheria, bronchitis, inflammation of lungs, swelling, &c., diarrhoea, dysentery, diseases of the kidneys and urinary organs. In use at hospital and medical clinics .all over the globe ; patronised by His Majesty the King of Italy; crowned with medals and diplomas at International Exhibition, Amsterdam.
