Auckland, May IS. Arrived— Mariposa, from San Francisco. Passengers—Rev. Father O’Neil, Miss O’Neil, Miss Millar, Messrs Dimnett, Stilwall, Millar. The dates are San Francisco April 14th, Honolulu May 4th, Apia 12th. The voyage was uneventful. The Mariposa brings news dated from Europe, April 26th. AMERICAN SUMMARY. San Francisco April 27. Two distinct cyclones, with terrific hailstorms and waterspouts combined, spread awful destruction on the newlybuilt town of Lahorna on April 25th. If. is reported that 62 human lives were lost and several have been fatally and scores seriously injured. The damage to property cannot be estimated. The brunt or the storm fell upon the prosperous little town of Norman, on the Santa Fe railroad. At that point 31 people were killed and 12 injured, and the town itself almost wiped out. After the cyclone a fearful hailstorm started, and after that, a violent rain storm. Would-be rescuers could hear the pitiful cries of unfortunates and here and there located imprisoned victims, but help in’ most cases was out of the question, and several unfortunates were compelled to be buried beneath the debris of their homes. While the white people were terrified, the negroes we e panic-stricken, and believed the Last Day had come. Twenty-one men were drowned in a storm on Lake Michigan on April 20th. They were employed on a new inlet tunnel, and lived in a crib 500 feet from the city of Milwaukee. The sea tore the crib apart as if it had been pasteboard. The waves were fully 15ft high, and the Victims Bmk out of sight, while people on shore were unable to render any assistance.
