In the action brought by Clara Parker against Joseph Clarke, claim £10,090 damages, the defendant denied that he had any part in the woman's abduction, but admitted that he had lent £2 to the man who informed him that he had taken her away. The money was merely given as an act of charity. Clarke also admitted that he had paid Mrs Parker's husband £IOOO in consideration of his not attaching him as co-respondent to divorce proceedings. The jury returned a verdict of £1550 with costs. A man named Condon has been arrested at Buchan, for the alleged murder of an Indian hawker. A portion of the murdered man's hand was found in a fire close to Condon's hut and jewellery and other property was found in Condon's possession. April 18. A labouring man severely attacked Mr J. Munro, ex-Agent-General, and gave as his reason that he had lost £IOO in one of the institutions with which Mr Munro is connected. He was fined £5. Sydney, April 18. A man named Reseigh Martin alias Wilfred Wilson Grey, who was arrested in March for organising a bogus lottery for some estates of laud, represented to be very valuable, has been sentenced to 3£ years' imprisonment. The Canadian Minister of Customs has cabled to Sir G. R.
