The result of the North Meath election was :—Mr Gibney (McCarthyite), 2C35 ; Mr Mahoney (Parnellit"?), 2370, The election for the Stockport Seat in the House of Commons resulted as follows :—Mr Whitely (Conservative), 52G4 ; Mr Hume (Home Ruler), 4799. It is proposed that a deputation comprising 50U Ulster men should wait on Mr Gladstone, protesting against Home Rule for Ireland.
A letter in the Morniug Post states that Mr Gladstone modelled the Home Rule Bill on the constitution of Victoria. O'Donovan Rossa expresses the opinion, that Mr Gladstone's Bill will not sy.tkiV the Irish.
Canada and the United States are responding freely to Mr Justin McCarthy's appeal for monetary assistance.
It is rumoured that the Irish Unionist organisations are purchasing arms.
