AUCKLAND WOOL SALES,

Auckland, Feb, 15,

At the third series of wool sales to-day about 920 bales were sold. The competition for lambs’ wool was exceptionally keen, the prices ranging from s*d to B£d. The prices for the other wools were as follows :—Good crossbred to 7d, fine crossbred 7:}d to Bd, Lincoln to Ggd, merino s£d to 6£d, inferior s£d to s|d. The bidding throughout was fairly brisk, prices averaging about the same as at the previous sales. CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington yards on Wednesday there were fair entries of stock. Fat Sheep—The fat sheep pens were about two-thirds full. The demand for freezers was not so keen as of late, and none but the primest lines were taken by the export buyers. Prices for all other classes of fat sheep were easier. The market was topped by some extra prime halfbred wethers, the line ranging from 17s 3d to 17s sd. Some halfbreds realised from IGs 8d to 17s4d, and some prime crossbreds sold at 15s 7d to 17s Id, and merino wethers 13s 3d to 14s Id, The general run of crossbred wethers was from 14s Id to 17s, crossbred ewes 14s 2d to los 6d for heavy sheep, and 10s to 11s 8d for inferior, crossbred maiden ewes and wethers 12s 3d to 15s Bd, halfbred ewes 11s 9d to 14s 3d, merino wethers 12s 6d to 13s 3d for best, and 10s to lls 6d for medium, merino ewes 7b 9d to Bs. Fat Lambs —Small entry, and prices a shade easier. Best pens brought from 12s Gd to 13s 9d, medium 10s 6d to lls 6d, light weights 8s 8d to 9s 6d. ■ Store Sheep—There was a large entry of stores, but competition was not so brisk as at late sales. Crossbred ewes sold at 12s 8d to 14s 3d, wethers 13s 9d to 14s Id, two-tooth crossbreds 12s 7d to 13s, crossbred lambs 8s 2d to 10s 9d, and a line of three-quarter-breds at 10s lOd,

find a line of merino ewes and lambs brought 6s 3d, all counted. Fat Cattle—The supply of beef was a small one, and the demand being good prices were firm at about late quotations —a shade higher if anything. Steers sold at £7 5s to £B, cows £4losto £6 10s, heifers £5 17s Gd to £7 10s.

Store Cattle—Beyond a few calves the entry of stores was composed of cows, and of these dry cows sold at £1 15s to £5, and with a strong demand ; dairy cows find springers sold at all prices, from £5 10s to £8 15s.

Cigs -Small entry, and late rates were realised, porkers bringing 19s to 295, baconer's 30s to G'Js, and stores 17s.

DUNEDIN I’IIODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the wet 4 ppding Wednesday : Wheat-—Pri; pc tuscan and velvet, 2s 9d to 2s lOd; a ruajly eytra good sample would fetch 2s lid to 2s; new wheat is now enquired after ; medium to gppd, 2s dd to 2s 7d ; demand quiet pfiepy: fowls’ wheat, good whole wheat up to ’4s ] other sorts, Is 9d to 2s. Barley— Chevalier, os 3d to 3s Gd ; Cape, 2s Gd to 2s 9d. Is Gd'u/lg IQ&i medium qualities. Is 7d to Is 8d : tiie <Uu?S}?4 has been better during the week. New season’s rye corn to hand 2s 9d to 3s. f Potatoes are now in demand, derwents £3 ftp £.3 10s : kidneys, £2 to £2 10s—in small lots. Tigs—Good demand at o|d for good quality and suitable sizes. Hams, 8d; roll bacon, 6d ; side do, Gd. Chaff —In better supply ; prime well cut, 56s to p7s Gd; other qualities from •10s upwards. Butter—Demand quiet; nominally; 71d to Bd. "Cheese—Akaroa/id to djd; factory, 4M, large sizes. Grass Seeds—Ryegrass, 2s to jS of , machined up to 3s 3d; cocksfoot, to id.

Sheepskins—At the sale on Tuesday last green pelts sold at lOd to Is 9d ; do lambs, Is to 2s Id ; dry crossbreds—best 5s to Gs 2d, medium 2s Id to 4s 9d ; do merinos—best 2s lOd to 3s lid, others Is 3d to 2s Gd ; dry pelts 4d to 2s.

Hides—Best well-saved ox hides are worth, 2£d to 2fd ; medium, Ifd to 2|d ; inferior and slippy, Id to IJd. Demand is steady. Tallow—Arrivals are small, and all lots are readily disposed of at—For prime rendered mutton, 18s to 21s ; medium, 15s to 17s; inferior, 13s to 14s; rough fat, best mutton caul, 12s Gd to 13s Gd ; ordinary, 9s to 11s Gd. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. At the Burnside Market on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat Cattle—lßß head yarded, and of these the majority were bullocks, ranging from good to prime, with one or two pens of light weights. The heifers yarded were also above the average quality. All pens offered were disposed of at, for best bullocks £8 10s Gd to £lO 2s Gd, medium £6 10s to £B, light £5 10s to £G ss, best cows £6 to £7 2s Gd, others £4 to £5 15s. Fat Sheep—l 377 crossbreds and 200 merino wethers yarded. Prices were fully Gd better than those of last week. Best crossbred wethers brought 14s Gd to 15s Gd ; medium, 12s to 13s Gd; best crossbred ewes, 13s 3d to 14s Gd ; medium, 11s Gd to 13s ; and merino wethers (best ), 10s to 10s 3d. Fat Lambs—6so penned, mostly half fat and small, and for these the demand was very slack, and prices obtoined were no criterion of values ruling to-day for good, well-finished lambs. Best brought 10s 9d to 12s ; medium, 8s 9d to 10s ; inferiorior difficult to dispose of at from 6s to Bs.

tigs—Only 40 yarded, and prices may be quoted in advance of those of last week. Suckers sold at 10s 6d to 15s, slips 15 s Gd to IGs, porkers 24s to 275, baconera 31s to 425, and a few very heavy up to 48s.
