Owing to the existence of scab in New Zealand and Western Australia a proclamation has been issued prohibiting the importation of stock fodder from those colonies for twelve months.

Stewart, the pugilist, died almost immediately after a prize-fight in which he had been taking part. His opponent Ross, has been arrested. Melbourne, Dec. 16,

Counsel’s opinion is that the informations should be laid against Sir M. Davies, Messrs Beal, Muntz, and Anderson directors of the Mercantile Bank of Australia, and not against Sir Graham Berry and Mr Addie. It is also recommended that Mr Milledge, late manager, should be brought back from London to explain the management. Dec. 17. A passenger train from Bendigo to Melbourne broke away from the engine. A boy bravely crawled along the foot-board and applied the brakes in the van, thus bring the train to a standstill. Adelaide. Dec. 16. The death is announced of M. L. Cotton M.L.0., author of the workmen’s land blocks scheme, which has done so much for the settlement of the colony, Dec. 18. In the cricket match New South Wales v. South Australia, the former made 337 runs in their first innings. Seven thousand people witnessed the match. Brisbane, Dec. 16. A camp of Dora Dora blacks has been discovered near Babooiture, and it was found k swag containing notes which have since been identified as belonging to a murdered man. The police are pursuing the blacks.
