TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the above board was held last evening. Present—Messrs J. Blyth (chairman), G. Mason, W. Storey, P. Coira and J. W. Miles.. Prior to commencing ordinary business the chairman, in a few cordial words, welcomed xhe return of his old colleague, Mr P r Coira, to the colony and his seat upon the board. The other commissioners endorsed the chairman's welcome. Mr Coira briefly returned thanks to the members for their kindly reception of him, and also to the ratepayers who had expressed their confidence in him while absent. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was then read. From Mr Jas. Blyth, applying for permission to carry a discharge pipe under the footpath in front of his residence, to carry surplus water from pump.—Grant ed. From Mr Nicholas, applying to h uvo his name removed from the roll in resp re of section on Main street and that of JVI r Job Brown substituted, he, haying mr-
rendered his tenancy of same.—Agreed *°- From the clerk to County Council, requesting that the second moiety of contribution to Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, £lO 18s lOd, be paid to the credit of the board on or before Ist December, 1892.—T0 be paid. From the clerk Geraldine Town Board, inquiring as to the working of the pan Bystem. —Replied to by the overseer. From the Government Printing Department, enclosing account for Shop Assistants Act.—Members had agreed to pay for same privately. VINE STREET DRAIN. Mr Coira drew attention to a stoppage in the drain from the Royal Hotel to Vine street, and asked for permission to open same.—The board offered no objection. SHOP ASSISTANTS ACT. The chairman asked if the members desired to move in the matter of the Shop Assistants' Act. Mr Miles understood that they required to adopt the provisions of the Act in regard to the half holiday. The chairman did not know if any change was necessary. So long as a half holiday was kept there did not seem much necessity for a change. At present a half holiday seemed regularly kept on dayAfter some consideration it was decided that there was no necessity for any change, but it was agreed that after the holidays there should be further consideration if the present arrangements were found not to work. OVERSEER'S REPORT.
The overseer's report was to the following effect:—Contract 44 had been completed satisfactorily. Considerable annoyance had been occasioned to the contractor by the trespassing on the con crete of larrikins, and stray cattle. Further damage would,be done by persons backing drays, etc., against the kerbing. CrossBings had been applied for, but more would have to follow.—Contract 45 was progressing favourably. Some little more Boil would require to be taken off the footpath near Godley street, and some more shingle might be required for roads. It was resolved that when contract 45 is passed by the overseer, a cheque for same be paid the contractor without a special meeting. RENTS. The clerk was instructed to take steps for recovery of overdue rents of reserves. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £llO 15s Id were passed for payment. The board then adjourned.
