AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present —Messrs Ashwell (chairman), A. Frew, E. Brown, B. Carr, and A. Bussell. COIIRESPONDEWCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From Mr F. G. Evington,hon. secretary of the Yaile Testimonial Committee, suggesting that the chairman should organise a local committee to collect subscriptions for presenting Mr Yaile with a purse of sovereigns, in recognition of his valuable services in securing railway reform. From the Clerk Geraldine County Council, applying for payment of outstanding rates.—Passed for payment. From Mr James Watt, asking the Board to permit the transfer of his interest in Beserve 760 to Mr A. Clinch. —Agreed to. From Mr A. Gibson, asking that the name of Mrs Ann Manning be substituted for his in respect of section 866, Arowhenua Village Settlement.— Mrs Manning signified her consent to same, and the request was complied with. From Mrs Mary Ann Slater, asking the board to use its influence to procure for her an increase of the allowance now made by the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. At present the cash value of rations allowed was only 13s IJd per 'month, and she not being so strong as hitherto, and her husband being unable to do anything for himself, she found this amount insufficient,—The board, after B >me explanation of the position of the applicant, authorised the clerk to make unfavorable representation of the case to tfie Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. From Mr Moore, applying for a catting on the south side of his section opening from Maude street, as his neighbour Mr Edgoler had a similar convenience and other residents could save thereby nearly a chain.—Beceived. OVERSEE!’.'S' REPORT. The overseer’s report was read as follows: — “To the Chairman and Comissioners Arowhenua Town Board. “ Gentlemen, —As authorised at last meeting the shingling of cutting at Princes street was gone on with, but the contractor employed left, with my permission, before the work was quite completed. He is now ready to continue tlie job, and also to carry out the other small jobs arranged for by the chairman and myself by your authority. The wooden culvert at the soutli side of Denmark street, at its junction with Hornbraok street, has given way. Prom examination it appears to be very rotten, and I would suggest iu place of repairing it that a pipe culvert bo laid there. The cost would be about £—. At the south end 1 ' of Studholme street the cost of a culvert and other work necessary to take off the accumulation of water would be about £—. During the month the Crown panger has arranged with ipe about the clearing of Government reserve 1846 from gorse, and a recommendation ro the creek reserves has also been forwarded to the Land Board, and a reply may be expected in due course.” The overseer was instructed, on the suggestion of Mr Bussell, to attend to email repairs at Maude street bridge, and also to put a pipe culvert at Hoj'qbvook Street. Mt Carr drew attention to the condition of the crossings at Ornsby Street, near Mr Austin’s and Mr Epps’.—lt was decided that at a favourable opportunity the road bo formed and pipe culverts put in.
