GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The above committee met on Tuesday evening. Present —Messrs W. Walton (chairman), T. Bowkett, L. Newport, J. Boughton and J. Gore. HEAD MASTER’S REPORT. The head master reported : The average attendandce for the quarter to date is as follows :—Boys, 102.1 ; girls, 105.8; total, 207.9 ; weekly roll 248; highest attendance, 224.1. The ink-wells mentioned in last report have not yet been received. Since last meeting the chairman authorised me to collect money from the children to defray the expenses of pens, ink and other stationery. I have accordingly asked the fourupper standards to contribute sixpence, and Standards I and 11. threepence each quarterly. 1 have up to date collected the sum of £1 3s, but there are many yet, who, doubtless will pay before the quarter ends. I think that Thursday, the 22nd December, would be the most suitable date on which to hold the concert proposed. In the matter of prizes, I propose, with the sanction of the committee, to give class prizes as well as the prizes for attendance already provided for; to arrange their distribution so that no child can obtain more than one prize, unless that jirize be for attendance. I think the attendance prize should be given in addition to any other prize obtained, as it is a special reward offered to encourage good attendance. At present 4 children are entitled to Ist class certificates and prize, and 20 to 2nd class certificates and prize, while in addition to these there are 25 entitled to prizes for good attendance during the last half of the year, making 59 in all. Of course, there may be fewer before the breaking up. lam confident, from past experience, that the giving of these attendance prizes will have a very marked effect on the attendance next year. I hope special prizes will be given this year. Mr Stonehouse’s services will continue only till the end of the year.— 1. Ciieyne Faknie, Head Master. The Committee agreed to hold the concert on December 22nd, and the secretary was instructed to write again for ink-wells. It was decided to ask Mr Stonehouse whether he would continue at the reduced salary after the end of the year. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Education Board stating that £9 2s Gd had been lodged to the school’s account in Bank for incidentals. ‘ CONCERT COMMITTEE. A sub-committee to make arrangements for the concert was appointed, consisting of Messrs Gore, Boughton, C. E. Sherratt, T. Sherratt, and the chairman. VISITORS. Messrs Gore and Boughton were appointed visitors for the ensuing mouth. The meeting then closed.
