THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.
Washington, Nov. 5. A wager of 22,000 dollars at evens has been staked on the Presidential election in New York. Several wagers for smaller amounts are mentioned. Forty-five thousand business men paraded New York in support of Mr Cleveland. Nov 7. Owing to the McKinley tariff,a secret ballot is to be used for the first time in thirty-five States, and the Republicans fear losses in consequence. The New York Herald, professing to give an impartial estimate, believes that Mr Cleveland will be elected. General Harrison’s gains, however, in the new States, make his supporters confident, ;uul the betting is even. New Yojik, Nov. (!. Mr Carnegie has subscribed £75.000 towards President Harrison’s election expenses. The result of the voting in Indiana, New York, Connecticut, lowa and Massachusets is doubtful.
