GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above board was held on Tuesday evening last. Present—Messrs A. White (chairman), J. Williams, R. Taylor, R. Y. Ferguson, R. Hammond, W. S. Maslin, and J. M. Sutherland. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as under; — From Mr James Turner, asking to have the name of Mrs B. Reseigh placed on the rate roll for section 259 in place of his own. —lt was resolved that all applications for names to be placed on the rate roll be referred to the finance committee to enquire into before granting, From Mr Thomas Groundwater, applying to have Mr Daniel Guthrie’s name placed on the rate roll for section 136, Geraldine, in place of his own.—Referred to the finance committee. From four ratepayers residing in Wilson street, desiring that the waterrace on the north side of that street should be carried to the junction of Wilson and High streets. They considered that the present state of the drain is very dangerous to health,—Referred to the works committee with full power to deal with the matter. From Mr W. Quinn, asking to have a kerbing put down in front of his section. —lt was resolved that the matter be left
in the hands of the Works Committee to pit down the crossing required or kerbing on the usual terms. THE WATER-RACE. The chairman said that the works committee had considered the question of carrying the water down the waterrace, which ’■'s at present dry, through the town. The committee had found it impracticable, but the clerk of the board had offered to repair the channel for a price and keep it in repair for the board’s term of office, and guarantee that the water will run down the channel as far as Messrs N. Dunlop and Co’s store. Mr C. B. Sherratt’s offer was that he would repair the asphalt channel down the west side of Talbot street from Taylor’s Hotel to Dunlop’s Corner, and maintain the same until the third Wednesday in September, 1894, for the sum of £lB. It was resolved that if the ratepayers affected pay for the repairs and maintenance of the water-race channel in question the water be turned on. ANIMAL CEMETERY. The chairman said that the Works Committao had seen into Mr Pratt’s application re dead animal cemetery, and they had considered it advisable to get a grave-digger for dead animals, who shall keep the keys of the cemetery and receive fees for burying dead animals. It was left with the chairman to make the best arrangements he can to see to the proper burial of animals. RETORTS. The overseer’s report ou work done and the ranger’s report on stray cattle were read. PLEASANT VALLEY BRIDGE. Tenders were received as under for a concrete bridge on the Pleasant Yalley road :—Win. Fletcher (Temuka), £9O ; Timothy Herlihy, £73; W. G. Sherratt & Co., £69 10s. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Williams, that the lowest tender be accepted.
KATE. It was decided to strike a rate of gths of penny in the £■ The meeting then terminated.
