RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
London, Nov. 2. The Scotch express travelling southwards came into collision with a goods train at Manor House siding, and all but two carriages were completely consumed by a fire which broke out. Eight persons were killed p‘ n d eleven injured, and it is feared that several others perished in the flames. Thb suffers were taken to Thirsk hospital. The accident occurred during a fog'when the train was running a mile per minute. Lords Tweeddale and Huntley, who were asleep in a Pullman car had a narrow escape. Fifty persons were injured. Over 100 passengers were on the express train which collided with another near Thirsk. Several of these had booked for Australia by the steamer Orotava, including Captain Duncan McLeod, of the 42nd Regiment, who was killed, and Mr S. P. Brodie, who was seriously injured. Two of the carriages were piled up on the engine and burnt, but the other carriages were not consumed. Altogether thirteen persons were killed. Lord Tweeddale expresses the belief that the signalman was asleep. The accident happened at 4 o’clock in the morning.
