Sydney, Nov. 2. Mr Philips, teacher of engineering at the technical College, was killed this evening by an explosion of gas, preparatory to experimenting with a class. Mikalofa has been declared the only port of entry in the Friendly Islands during the prevalence of cholera in Europe, Nov. 3. The new Pastoral Amendment Bill introduced in the Lower House provides for the use of postal notes, and prohibits the carrying on of lotteries through the Post Office. The new Marine Bill provides for the representation of engineers, officers, and seamen on Chambers of Commerce. A man named Mackin and his wife have been arrested on suspicion of having caused the death of seven infants whose bodies were buried in the back yard of their premises at Macdonaldtown, a suburban municipal district situated between Newton and Alexandria, about two miles south of the Metropolis. Warrants have also been issued for the arrest of two daughters of accused on a charge of participating in the crime.
