The following are the tips of the leading sporting writers for the principal events at the meeting ; for the Melbourne Stakes, selects Bungebah, Paris, Portsea, or Pygmalion ; for the Victorian Derby, Camook, Meli, Azim ; for the Maribyrnong Plate, Anster or Zeph to win, with Fairfield and Wangauella to fill the places; for the Melbourne Cup he relies upon Portsea or Camoola to take first place, and think Candour and Malolo should supply the second and third horses. “ Asmodeus ” fancies Paris, Bungebah, and The Admiral, or Redfern’s Best, in the order named, for the Stakes; Camoola, Candour, and Azim for the Derby; Zeph, Wanganella, Fairfield for the Plate. He considers Camoola, Portsea, Clonard, Forty Winks, and Correze are the best in the Cup, and that they should pass the post iu the order named. “Caspian” goes for the Stakes wkh Bungebah, Paris, Autonomy; for the Derby, Camoola, Azim, Candour; for the Plate, Wanganella, Burrawaug, Zeph, or La Gloria. “Freelance” makes his selections as follows : For the Stakes, Bungebah or Trieste; for the Derby, Camoola, The Captain, Azim; for the Plate, Wanganella or La Gloria; for the Cup, Clonard, Correze, Camoola.
