'FRISCO MAIL SERVICE.

At the instance of Mr Perceval, Sir Charles Tupper, Agent-General for Canada, is urging Mr Arnold Morley, the Postmaster-General to renew the San Francisco mail contract, on the ground that the precedent established by the refusal to grant a subsidy would be a serious barrier to the proposed Vancouver route, Mr Sidney Buxton, Unuev-Seevetnry for the Colonies, lias privately advised Mr Morley to renew the contract. Mr Perceval has written a strong letter to Lord llipon, the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in which he points out that the continued refusal to renew the contract will arouse a general feeling of dissatisfaction in the colony, and he contends that if the colony is desirous of continuing the service, it is not for the English Government to throw obstacles in its way. He also points out that in the event of war, the alternate route would be valuable.
