TEMUKA TOWN BOARD

The monthly meeting of the above board was held on Wednesday evening. Present Messrs J. Blyth (chairman), W. Storey, G. Mason, and J. W. Miles. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read as follows: From the town clerk, Hawera, stating that it had been proposed t r > erect a Listing memorial to Sir, H A. Atkinson, and that it had been suggested that the names ef all mayors of boroughs, and chairmen of town and road boards, be added to the list of committee, and asking that a sub-eomrnittee be appointed to arrange to receive subscriptions towarde the same. ' From Messrs Clinch and Llpyd, apply; ing, on behalf of the Post and Telegraph Office, for permission to lay pipes across footpaths. OVERSEAS pPI'ORT AND PETITION, T}ie overseer’s which was rpacl, was to the following effect A limited amount of shingle had been carted for repairs. The need of a pipe-drain across Thomas street was again drawn attention to. as well as the. need of more shingle on the road north of Dr Blunden’s, and also from Mr McLeod’s to the railway crossing. Attention was also dpawu to

necessity for improved drainage at Cass street, and also to the need of clearing the open drain continuing on "V ine street from watercress The overseer also gave particulars of ch linage of roads proposed to be kerbed and asphalted, and also former cost of similar work. A petition was received from Mr J. Beri and 29 other ratepayers asking the board to continue the asphalting and kerbing of the footpaths leading from the Crown Hotel and McLeod’s corner to the boundary near the railway crossing. In this connection the chairman stared that the road mentioned would require a lot of filling up, and that it would be unwise to asphalt such a road for a long time. Mr Mason drew attention to the necessity for some formation in Dyson Street. At present the road held a lot of surface water. After consideration, Mr Storey moved that tenders be called for the kerbing of the south side of High Street from McLeod’s corner to the boundary near the railway crossing.—Seconded by Mr Miles, and carried. It was also resolved that the kerbing be extended from the north side of Eweu Road footpath to the boundary at Cuss Street, and also to have the footpath and road formation in Dyson Street attended to. _ The tenders for the same to be considered within fourteen days, and the work let in separate contracts. The overseer was also authorised to call for tenders for the grading of the road in front of Mr Morris’s residence in Main South Road. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £26 7s od were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
