TEMUKA TOWN BOARD

A special meeting convened by the clerk took place in the town board office last evening for the election of chairman. Present Messrs Blyth, Mason, Miles and Storey. The clerk, having formally taken the chair, explained the purport of the meeting and declared the poll of the late election as published. It was proposed by Mr Mason, seconded by Mr Storey, and carried unanimously —“ That Mr Blyth be asked to take the chair.” This was accompanied by most respectful and complimentary sentiments from each of the members present. Mr Blyth, with appropriate remarks, stated that although he had hoped to see someone else proposed to take the chair lie must thank them for the honour conferred upon him, and that it would be his constant endeavour, as in the past, to fulfil his duties strictly and impartially. He was much gratified to see so many old colleagues re-elected to the board, as it proved that they still held the confidence of the electors, find he was sure, from long experience, it would make his duties more pleasant and less onerous. He had great pleasure in welcoming Mr J. W. Miles as one of their number, as he 'had previously experienced his aid in public business. Having taken the chair, he stated that as it was their first duty to appoint their clerk and overseer for the present term he had great pleasure in stating Mr Pilbrow had filled that office most efficiently since he uudertood it, and he could not do less than recommend his re-appointment. It was proposed by Mr Miles, seconded by Mr Mason, and carried unanimously—- “ That Mr Pilbrow be appointed clerk, overseer, etc., for the present term.” Mr Pilbrow, in a few words, expressed his gratification for the compliments showered on him, but said he was not aware that he mei’ited half as much, as he had only endeavoured to the best of his ability to carry out the duties he had undertaken, which he intended still to do as long as he filled the office. As this concluded the business, the board then adjourned till Wednesday next, the 28th inst., at 7 p.m.
