A strike liaa occurred on the steamer Tagliaferro, against the reduction of £1 per month all round, but tho crew was immediately replaced. The secretary of the Seamen's TUaon predicts a great strike.
Dunedik, Sept. G
A number of unemployed waited on Mr Farnio,of tho Labour Bureau, to-day, but were informed that nothing could bo done to provide them with work till tho money was voted. Twenty-five men gave in their nameK »s willing i o go busk falling to ISJapier, and this was telegraphed to the head office at Wellington. A reply was received that only fifteen men could be taken and that not for a few clays. Free passages would bo given to Lyttelton. At a meeting of unemployed a petition was signed in favor of the continuance of the co-operative system of public works.
