GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Geraldine Town Board was held on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs A. White, A. Sherratt, R. Hammond, W. S. Maslin, J. Williams, and N. Dunlop. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as under : From the Geraldine County Council, applying for subsidy to Timaru Harbor Board, £2B 10s 6d.—-Cheque to be sent. From the Bank of New Zealand, informing the Board that the sum of £l7 had been received from the PaymasterGeneral, Wellington, and placed to board's credit, being subsidy collected 1891-2.
From Mr W. Heney, offering the sum of 10s a year for section 249 for fourteen years. —Offer accepted. From Mr George Prouting, asking that a crossing be made over the water-race into his section for dray traffic.—The Works Committee to inspect the place, and have the work done if necessary. From Mr Thomas lleseigh, applying to be placed on the roll as the occupier of Lot 45, Geraldine Hotel.—Granted. From three ratepayers, asking to have shingle put down on the road near Mr Thomas Moore's house.—Left over for incoming board to deal with. REPORTS. The ranger's report on stray cattle, and the overseer's report, were read and considered satisfactory. BALANCE-SHEET. The board's balance-sheet was laid on the table, considered, and signed by the chairman. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £67 10s 8d were passed for payment. TAXES. It was resolved that the Commissioner of Takes be written to, asking for an explanation why the Roman Catholic Church, Geraldine, is exempt from taxes while the Presbyterian Church iB taxed. The board then rose.
