PAMIR AND AFGHANISTAN.
Calcutta, Aug. 27. The Ameer is awaiting British advice and help in the Pamir.
The Russian advance in Pamir is fomenting excitement in Cabul and south of the Hindoo Koosh, and increases the necessity of an interview taking place between the Ameer of Afghanistan and Lord Roberts. Aug. 29.
It is reported that three distinct Russian detachments are in Pamir. The Indian Government are insisting that the Ameer shall refrain from coercing the frontier tribes. The Hazaars have inflicted another defeat on the Ameer's troops.
Afghanistan is exciied, and India is anxious at the position of affairs. Russian iroops are occupying the left bank of the Oxus. China is demanding the evacuation of Pamir. London, Aug. 29. The Russian Ambassador in London is in communication with Lord Rosebery regarding the Pamir dispute. The Chinese Ambassador in London is proceeeing to St. Petersburg to demand an explanation of Russia's action.
Raron De Staal, the Russian Ambassador, assures Lord Rosebery that the Russian advance in Pamir is made only with amicable intentions,
