AFGHANISTAN AND PAMIR.
London, Aug. 17. It is stated that a vast quantity of war material has been despatched from Sebastopol and Odessa to General Yankofl, and tiiat all the troops in the Caucasus are held ready to reinforce the detachment in Asia. Calcutta, Aug, 17. It is reported that another collision has occurred between the Russian and Afghan troops at Aktash, on the upper Oxus, in which seven of the latter were killed. It originated in a dispute between the Russian and Afghan leaders. The former was shot. The Russians have arrived at Ghunab, between Thignan and Roahan. It is reported that the Afghans have retired to Tabazab, and the Chinese to the Murghan river. Hong Kong, Aug 16.
The Chinese Government have strongly protested to the Russian. Government against the occupation of Pamir, alleging that it is a breach of the treaty. The Chinese Government are becoming alarmed at the Russian advance in the Pamir, and have despatched troops there.
