ENGLISH AND FOREIGN MARKETS.
London, Aug. 12. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 1011 ; 31 ditto, 941. New Zealand long-berried wheat, ex warehouse, 33s Od, market quiet. For off coast cargoes sellers ask 31s 9d, but buyers are only willing to give 30s 9d. Canterbury mutton, 3 Jd; lamb, sgd; Wellington mutton, Sgcl ; beef, forequarters, 2gd ; hindquarters 3 : kl. New Zealand hemp is in poor demand. Seventy bales were sold by auction this week at an advance of 10s. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 34s 6d, market flat, ; Victorian ditto, 33s 6d. The next Antwerp wool sales will be held from the 23rd to the 26th inst., inclusive, when 10,000 bales of River Plate wool will be catalogued, but none from Australia. Aug. 13. Silver continues to fall, and is quoted at 3s IJ-d. Despite the rumours o£ impending failures the Bradford wool market remains firm at late rates, and a fair amount of business is doing. The official receiver appointed by t'ne shareholders of the Mercantile Bank of Melbourne has submitted a report to the committee, in which he expresses the opinion that the oxplana'ion of Sir AVI. Davies, the colonial representative, is far from satisfactory.
