ALLEGED SHOCKING CRUELTY.

In the Masterton Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, Thomas and Elizabeth Goodgame were charged with illegally beating a girl named Thompson, 15 years of age, a daughter of the latter. The medical evidence showed that the girl was one mass of bruises. The child herself stated that she has been made to walk to a creek on frosty mornings without a vestige of clothing on ; and had a vessel containing urine emptied over her head, and made to swallow a portion of the contents. The accused admitted having made the girl sleep on boards and thrashed her with a piece of wood, but denied having adopted unnecessary measures. The case was almost concluded when the female accused swooned, and the proceedings were adjourned until Monday.
