FOOTBALL.

Colonial First v. Temuka First. This match was played in Timaru on Thursday last, and resulted in a win for the Colonials by 9 points to 7 points, but as several protests are going to the Rugby Union, the game may not count a win for the Colonials. The visitors played with 14men. The game was most unsatisfactory, the partiality of the referee in favor the Colonials being most marked, and it is to be hoped that in future matches a referee who is impartial will be found. The play on both sides was very good, the teams being evenly matched, and it would be hard to single out any of the players. T. Brosnahan for Temuka potted a neat goal, and J. Brosnahan placed a goal from a penalty kick. Two tries were obtained for Temuka, but were disallowed. In one of the cases the referee did not give his decision till after the ball was taken out for the kick off, it being understood that it was a force down. The Colonials score was a potted goal and a goal from, a try (disputed).

Union First v. Timaru First. This match was played on the Athletic Club's ground in Timaru on Thursday, and resulted in a draw, neither side scoring. We understand this match is also under protest, as the Union played with a man who belongs to the Temuka Club, he not having received his transfer from the Temuka Club.

Temuka Second v. Colonial Second. These teams met last Thursday in their match for the President's Trophy, the result being a win for the local team by one goal and two tries (9 points) to nil. The game was very fast, both teams being evenly matched in weight, but the fast following up of the local forwards and safe play of their backs was too much for their opponents, who were only dangerous once during the game. The following scored for the winners—Morton, Harding, and Low. From*;oue of the tries Anderson placed a goal.
