IMPERIAL POLITICS.
London, Aug 2. The division on the want of confidence motion is expected to take place on August 11th. The Conservatives have been unsuccessful in their endeavour to attach the Parnellite section to them. Election petetitions have been lodged against the return of Messrs Isaacson (Stepney), Price, Jones, and Montgomery. Mr Childers is improving in health but is unlikely to accept office in the new administration. There is considerable excitement in Douglas, the chief town of the Isle of Man, owing to the report that Mr Gladstone pioposes under his Home Rule system to annex the Isle to Ireland. it is stated that the Conservative members propose to object to Mr M. Davitt taking the oath on the ground that he has not completed the sentence of his term of imprisonment for alleged treason.
Aug. .'!. Mr Gladstone has almost recovered from his recent severe illness. He had a long interview to-day with Messrs Justin McCarthy and Dillon, re Irish matters. The election petitions lodged against Mr Arnold Morley (East Nottingham), and Mr H. S. Wright (South Nottingham), have been withdrawn. The members of the late Parnell party demand that there shall be a winter session, and urge that evicted tenants be reinstated ; also that the Home Rule Bill be introduced. The Nationalists are willing that Parliament shall prorogue until January. Mr Keir Hardie, speaking at Newcastle, declared that the Labor party must oppose the re-election of Mr Morley in order to secure eight hours for miners, and that the question of autonomy for Ireland must be sunk in view of that.
