BELFIELD SCHOOL CONCERT.

One of the best country school concerts held in this district was given at Belfield on Friday evening, when the attendance was such that the committee had no cause for complaint. Mr W. Ford acted as chairman, and read out the items as they came on the programme. The opening of the first part was an overture on the piano « Woodland Whispers," by Miss May. Following this came one of the gems of the evening, a chorus by the school children entitled "The Bells." For children, this difficult piece was exceptionally well rendered, and the diminuendo passages in the dying out of the chimes receive i very careful attention. In fact, the singing of the children in every piece they undertook was so good that anyone could plainly see that Mr Glanville, the master, had much pains in the musical training of his scholars. The next item was a song by Mr Hawkes, "I'll Conquer or Die." Miss Glanville then sang " Thy Voice," Avith a sweetness that won iier great favor with the audience. Master John Harris came next with a recital of "Will Carlton's poem "Deith Doomed," after which Mr' Glanville got an encore for singing " Steering Homo." The children were again brought" into use and sang the " Hunting Song," accompanied with Miss May (piano), and Mr Glanville (violin). After this Master Henry Brenton put the audience in a good humour with his reading, an extract from "Three Men in a Boat," cafled ".Tlia Hanging ofa Picture." << Home ' they brought Her Warrior Dead," was nicely sung by Miss Meredith, and the duet "Suspicious," by Mr Glanville and Miss May, secured them an encore. " The Warrior's Graye," sung fry the scjiool children, and the pathetic s,qug <? Driven froin Hqme,' ? " sung by Master L. Glauvillein character, concluded the first half of the programme. The next part of the programme was made up as follows :—Overture by Miss May; song, " Johnnie Schmoker " by school children, encored and responded to; song, '£ Apart," by Mrs Hawkes;' comic song by Mir' Hawkes,"" Dear Me, is that i?QSsible," and responding to an encore, U Tjh'e Freutjhinan '?; sifiig," Tit for Tat," by fyliss Meredith ; song in character by Mr 'Glanviile, " Old Log Cabin the Dell," whipl} wasencored ;" pathetic in character by Miss LiaaieMay, l '' Nobody's Child"; song, " The Dear Little Shamrock," by Miss May; song by Mrs Glanville, " Oh, Sing to Me the Auld Scotch Sangs " ; song by school children, " The Vesper Bells" ; recitation by Mr Thpmaa, pnepred and gayp another ; song, ••The Flower Girl,'?
