MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the Mount Peel Road Board was held on Friday, July 15th. Present Messrs C. G. Tripp, J. D. Acland, and R. Thew. Correspondence was read from the Ashburton County Council, saying that the repairs to Rangitata bridge, fencing, etc., would be put in hand. From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, re adjusting of the boundary between the Mount Peel and the Geraldine Road Board Districts, and stating that the boundary had been marked on the maps of the two districts. From the Agricultural Department, Wellington, concerning the sparrow nuisance.—lt was resolved :—" That the clerk obtain poisoned wheat, to be distributed in the district." The Board passed the following resolution : —" That this Board desire to place on record their sense of the loss which the colony has sustained by the death of Sir Harry Atkinson, and their high appreciation of the valuable services he rendered to the country as a statesman and a soldier; and also to express their sympathy with Lady Atkinson and family in their bereavement." The clerk was instructed to prepare a list of persons having gorse on the roads. Tenders were ordered to be called for ploughing round plantations, and for thinning the plantations near Tripp'a cutting. The clerk was instructed to purchase another horse, and to sell the horse now at Peel Forest. The Board endorsed the petition of the ratepayers of the Temuka District to the Temuka Town Board, for the purpose of forwarding a petition to members of the House of Representatives to have all governing bodies, including Domain and Cemetery Boards, made elective. Accounts amounting to £129 Is lOd were passed for payment and the Board rose.
