CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE CONGRESS.
London, July 3. At yesterday’s sitting of the Chambers of Commerce Congress the representative of the Auckland Chamber moved that Governments ought to make carriers liable to consignees for loss. The London Chamber proposed an amendment that a conference of parties interested in this subject be held, failing which the Board of Trade be moved to introduce legislation. The amendment was carried. Mr Young, of London, moved aresolution which was carried, in favor of subsidising agencies as the best medium for colonising the sugar colonies, issuing tickets to emigrants at £2 each. It was resolved to unify the currency of the Empire and arange an International Monetary Union. The motion of the Bradford Chamber in favor of Imperial penny post was adopted, the Melbourne and Launceston Chambers opposing. The Congress then dissolved. The Economist says that outside Canada ard the Colonies, the Congi’ess showed no desire for trade federation on a protection basis.
