CHOLERA.

Rome, July 1. It is reported that cholera has broken out at Brindisi and at Latiano, a town fourteen miles further south. St. Petersburg, July 1, The troops will not go into camp in the towns on account of the cholera, which is spreading over Russia. Ninety-ssven per cent, of those seized die. Cholera is still raging at Baku, and the mortality is enormous. A panic has been caused amongst the residents. The telegraph reports of the spread of cholera in the East, and its movements westward, give importance to the report of single cases of cholera in Paris in the middle of May. A Paris despatch of May 19th says :—“ The Prefect of Police, whom I saw to-day, informed me that after strict investigation it had been ascertained that only one undoubted case of cholera nostras had occurred in Paris and the suburbs, the other cases being cholerine or urremia. The real cause of the outbreak is the usual yearly substitution of the Seine water for drinking purposes. The change is divided over each district of Paris in turn, and is always followed by a greater prevalence of choleraic and typhoidal symptoms. Happily no reason . exists for panic or apprehension, and the authorities are not only disinfecting the premises where deaths have taken place, but are taking every preventive measure.’?
