SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETINGS.
HILTON. A meeting of the Hilton School Committee was held on Monday evening last. Present Messrs Skinner (chairman), Beattie, Ryan, and Leary. A letter was received from the Board of Education, notifying the names of persons nominated for the vacancy on the hoards.. The committee decided to record their vote in favor of the Rev. J. White, of Pleasant Point. The head master’s report rofid and considered. He pointed out that th e school had been open 170 times during the last six months, and that some of the pupils had only been present from 40 to 50 - tinpj#, J.t was impossible for the school to pass a examination if the pupils do not attend. ' Tim report of the inspectors visit to the school was read, and considered very satisfactory. The report stated that Mr Steven appeared to be particularly anxious for the school to do well, and he did not spare himself in his efforts to got the best work possible out of his classes. The home exercises y-erp regularly marked, and the books had a good appearance, the work in them being neat and carefully done. A tender for two cords of firewood was accepted. An account of £1 4s was passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
WOODBURY, A meeting of this committee was held on the 25th inst. Present Messrs Brown (chairman), Dean, Comrade, Hammond, and Gick. A letter was received from the Board of Education in reference to nominations of a member to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of the Rev. Jasper Smyth. for the Rev, J. White. It was resolved that the mid-winter holidays extend from the 25th June to the 11th July. The head master reported the attendance to have been : Boys, 41; girls, 38 ; total, 79. The number on roll was 102. He stated that the tank was out of order, and that repairs were required to
the closets. Two pointers sft. long were needed for the school.—The chairman was requested to attend to the requirements. Tenders for cleaning the school were received and dealt with as follows: Mrs Wood, £l2; Mrs Eaton, £11; Mrs Ritchie, £lO 10s; Mrs Putnam, £lO ; Mrs Harris, £9 (accepted). ■ It was resolvedl to call for tenders for trimming fences, etc. It was decided to have the ceiling plastered as soon as possible; Mr Dean to see that the work is done. Mr Dean notified that he would move at the July meeting that the insurance on the school should be paid out of the incidental fund, instead of the prize fund. A small account was passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
