The Head Master’s report was read as follows : “ I have the honor to forward the monthly report. The average attendance for the month is as follows :—Boys, 08.7 ; girls, 101.5; total, 200.2; weekly roll, • 257; highest attendance, 222. The average attendance for the quarter to date is : —Boys, 89.6 ; girls, 9G.7 ; total, 186.3; weekly roll, 257 ; highest attendance, 222. The attendance during the last fortnight has declined, and the replies I have received from parents in answer to absentee forms seem to indicate that the reduced attendance is due to sickness. — Concert: The concert has been fixed for July the Bth, and I forward herewith 50 of each kind of ticket for distribution by the committee ; the remainder the children and teachers will endeavor to dispose of. —Forms and Desks : We are still short of forms, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and sth Standards being very much crowded. If the committee could prevail upon the board to supply ns with some more suitable forms and desks the school work could be conducted in a much more satisfactory manner.—Holidays : As the pupil-teachers’ commence their annual examination on Tuesday, 28th June, and do not finish until the following Saturday, it will be necessary for the committee to settle the date of the mid- winter vacation and its duration. —Mr McLeod’s Services : I am sorry to have to inform the committee that Mr McLeod is leaving us at the end of the week. During the time he has been in the school he has devoted himself to the work with a zeal and energy that deserve commendation. During the absence of Miss Riordan, be had charge of her class, Standard 11., and his presence has saved us a great deal of trouble and incon- ' venience in consequence. As his services have been voluntary and honorary I am sure the committee will be willing to acknowledge Mr McLeod’s services in writing, when they learn that he will shortly be an applicant for another position.— I luve, etc., “ T. The Headmaster’s report was as follows : The number on the roll is; Boys, 187; girls, 174; total, 3GI. For the current quarter up to the 17th instant the average daily attendance has been; Boys, IG2; girls, I3G; total, 208. In every class there are some children who attend irregularly. I herewith enclose a list of the worst offenders in this matter. Miss Phillips resumed her duties on Monday, the 13th instant. The pupil teachers’ examination begins on Tuesday next, and continues till Saturday, July 2nd, both days inclusive. It appears that a boy broke his leg on Monday evening, in the playground. I have merely to say that the accident happened after the school was closed, and that I have frequently cautioned the hoys about standing on the ladder, pointing out to them the danger of doing so. Provided the apparatus in question is used for its legitimate purpose, there is very little possibility of an accident. The stationery fees come in very slowly. I will on Friday hand over to the secretary the amount received to that date. —I have, etc., “ W. G. Edge, “ Head Master.” A list of irregular attendants was attached, and the Secretary was instructed to issue notices to the parents of the same. general. Mr Russell apologised for absence at last meeting, and stated that at his visit everything was working very smoothly. The head master was very courteous and obliging, and he was gratified to find the work progressing so well. Mr McCaskill, on behalf of Mr Hooper and himself, reported that they had visited the school. Everything appeared to proceed regularly. The new drain acted -well, but the pump had been blocked with shingle by a mischievous boy. It had been repaired. During the very cold weather better fires would require to be kept. The janitor puts out a certain supply but this was not always sufficient.
Mr Oldfield also made a brief report. The locks upon the cupboards had been duly fixed as authorised. The Secretary was instructed to see the janitor upon the subject of fires, etc. The Chairman and Mr Bates were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £5 2s 7d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
