Washington, June 0. Mr J. G. Blaine has resigned the position of Secretary of State in order to contest the Presidency. President Harrison has «U!sJi*pted nomination. There is considerable st|r at the action adopted hy Mr Blaine, which is attributed to personal bickerings with the President. W. F. Wharton, Assistant Secretary of State, is appointed temporary successor to Mr Blaine.

Intense interest is shown throughout the country at t he sudden character of Mr Blaine’s resignation, which was conveyed to President Harrison in a very curt mannner, president Harrison refilled in a similar strain, J-f, ?s believed that Mr Blaine will no longer protest gainst his nomination for the Presidency. Both contingents are now assembling at Minneapolis, hot the representatives of President Harrison are said to outnumber those of Mr Blaine at every point.
