FATAL ACCIDENT.
A fatal accident happened at the Gully Bush, Raugitira Yalley, yesterday, about noon. Carl Hansen, better known as Charley Hansen, was engaged in bush work for Mr A. M. Clark. A tree he was falling struck another, and the butt swung round about nine feet, striking Hansen on the chest and pinning him to the ground. Death was almost instantaneous. His wife, who had just arrived with his dinner, saw the occurrence, after vainly trying to release her husband, ran to a neighbor named Stumbles for assistance. With two of his men the butt was sawn off and the body extricated. Constable Bourke,of Temuka, JSlppened to be in the district, and hearing of the occurence, with Mr Archer and Constable Stanley who, had been sent for from the Point, carried the body out of the bush, and it was then carried to Pleasant Point to await the inquest, which will probably take place to-day.
