TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held last;evening. Present — Messrs Blyth (chairman), Storey, Clinch, and Mason.
CORRESPONDENCE. | Correspondence was read From Mr F. W. Stubbs, asking for payment of the Board’s share of Hospital and Charitable Aid, being £lO 8s lOd for half year. From Messrs Perry and Perry, asking to be supplied with particulars of rates claimed; also enclosing cheque. From Mr H. M. Milos, asking that the Rev. Mr Doßow’s name bo placed on the rate roll iuoiead of the Wesleyan Church Trustees’, and also his own name for sections 146 and 131.—Agreed to attend to the same. From the Fire Brigade, asking that a room be provided for tho fire brigade to meet in during the winter evenings. Mersrs Blyth and Mason suggested that the Board room be placed at their disposal for their meetings, and a motion to that effect was carried. COMPLAINT. Mr Mason complained of the job near Mcßratney’s costing £l4, but the chairman and the clerk said it could not have been done for less. Mr Mason said that tenders ought to have been called for a £l4 job. But the chairman explained it was chieflyfor pipes and that they had been obtained at an extremely cheap rate. re-forming footpath. Mr Storey said the footpath in front of Mr Fenton’s required re-forming. The chairman said there were only two houses in the whole length of it, and after it was briefly discussed it was decided to defer further consideration. overseer’s report. The overseer reported that the contract for carting shingle and forming footpath in High Street, had been thrown up by Mr W. Hopkiuson. He had learned from Mr H. Elkis, who had been requested by Mr Hopkinson to take up tho work, that tho latter had been unable to go on with it on acc Mint of the noncompletion of other work. Mr Elkis was willing to take over the shingling, but not the footpath formation. The street flood water which discharged in Wilmshurst Road down terrace, causing backwater to lodge on low lands, had been satisfactorily diverted acoss Wilmshuist road to the west side of Vine street. The reflector placed in the lamp near Mr Hairisons answered well. All the rates owing by the 12 defaulters drawn by the board on the 6th April and 4th May, with two exceptions, had been paid. Both of these had left the town, and one was away from the town. Those rates remaining unpaid would be sued for. He had had to procure two padlocks to prevent tresspass of cattle on the board’s premises. Owing to complaints re soapsuds being discharged from the drain from certain premises into the main street, lie had had the same permanently closed. The overseer was instructed to stop another drain from which soapsuds were also discharged into the street. It was resolved to forfeit the deposit on Mr Hopkinson’s shingling and formation contract, and invite fresh tenders for same. Tenders to close on Monday next. „ „ ~ It was decided to sue for all unpaid rates and rents. accounts. Accounts to the amount of £O2 Gs were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
