ST. SAVIOUR’S CHURCH, TEMUKA.

On Sunday afternoon Mrs Hamilton was presented by the pupils and teachers of St. Saviour’s Sunday School with a copy of “ Hymns Ancient and Modern,” very handsomely bound in green morocco. Mr Pinckney, the superintendent of the school, in making the presentation expressed the feelings of all associated with the school towards Mrs Hamilton. During the whole of her connection with it she had been of the utmost assistance to both scholars and teachers, and all of them entertained most grateful and kindly feelings towards her. The presentation was suitably acknowleded, after which Mr and Mrs Hamilton took leave of the children and their teachers —a leave-taking that proved too painful to be prolonged. In the evening at St. Saviour’s Church there was a very large congregation, many members of other sects being present. The service consisted of Evening Prayer and Holy Communion. The Rev. Mr Hamilton preached from the words “ And now I say unto you farewell,” and “ Lo I am with you to the end,” and divided his discourse into two sections, the first referring to his own stay with them, his labors, and his regret at having to part from a parish and people where he had spent some of the happiest years of his life. Life, however, was made up of farewells : there were temporary separations and partings by death, and this brought him to the second portion of his text, from the words of which and from the general context of the chapter he reminded them of the consolation allowed them if they lived in such a way as to merit the constant companionship of Christ. At the close of the service about 97 persons remained to partake of Sacrament.
