TIMARU MARKETS. The Canterbury Farmers’ Association Limited, report as under : Wheat—The market is practically lifeless except for prime samples. Sprouted but dry samples fit for shipment are in moderate demand, but damaged lines and inferior fowl wheat are neglected and very difficult to quit. Values are : —for prime Tuscan 3s 8d to 3s 9d, velvet and pearl 3s 6Ad to 3s 7 Ad, red chaff 3s Gel to 3s 7d, second quality 2s lid to 3s 3d, badly damaged and whole fowl wheat 2s 3d to 2s 6d. Oats— There is a steady demand for good bright samples at Is 8s to Is BAd for Canadians, Is GAd to Is 7Ad for sparrowbill, Is 5d to Is GAd for duns and tartars, Js4d to Is 6d for Danifii, discolored and weathered samples 2d to 3d less. Barley—Good malting lines are in request and bright samples are worth form 3s to 3s 2d, second quality 2s 9d to 2s lid, inferior and feed 2s to 2s 3d. Potatoes —Owing to the unsatisfactory state of the Sydney market there are no buyers at present, and values are about 20s to 255, f.0.b., sacks in. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, May 20. New Zealand potatoes are difficult of sale at £2 10s. Hobart, May 21. Returns published by the Government statist show an increase in the wheat yield of 3,024,984 bushels. ENGLISH AND FOREIGN MARKETS. London, May 20. The Otago and Southland Investment Company’s yearly meeting was held today. The chairman said that enquiries were being made as to the prospects of investment in the Capo. A dividend of 6 per cent, was declared. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 4Jd per 1b; Canterbury lamb is quoted at 5Jd ; New Zealand best, hindquartsrs, 37s Bd. Otago Harbour Board stock has advanced £2, New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 105 J ; 3A per cent, do, 9GA. New Zealand long-beried wheat is quiet at 38s. South Australian wheat is weaker at 38s 9d ; Victorian wheat is flat at 38s 3d. May 21. The Antwerp wool sales closed to-day. The market was animated, and the rise in good qualities was fully maintained. Inferior sorts were rather neglected. Out of 9500 bales offered 5000 were sold. Nearly all consignments from Australia were withdrawn.
